Synopsis: I entertain
naked people for a living. No, not THAT kind of entertainment. I own a nudist
resort. I’m not a nudist, but Val Silva is. And he’s a human supernova sleeping
in the room next door.
The man is
tall, gorgeous, tattooed, and a shameless exhibitionist. As the Brazilian bad
boy of the international football world, he’s as famous for his sextape as for
his talent on the field. Oh, did I mention he walks around naked ALL the time?
A girl only has so much willpower. Maybe we can have a little fun… as long as
his tabloid past doesn’t mess with my quiet life.
Eve Holt is
the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen, in those short-shorts and tank tops that make
me wonder what she’s hiding underneath. Most women love my wild side, but Eve
thinks I’m trouble with a capital T. Okay, she might have a point there. But I
always get what I want, and I want her. I didn’t lead my team to Olympic gold
by giving up. That’s one fact about me Eve is about to learn.
Passion is the first book in a brand-new trilogy of romantic comedies from Anna
Durand, the bestselling author of the Hot Scots series.

My thoughts
This was a cute romance! Val Silva is a former Olympic star who got a bit of a reputation in the news as being a bad boy. Eve runs a naturist resort, in it for the money rather than the clothing optional aspect. She sticks strictly to no relationships between her and guests staying, but Val starts to slowly chip away at her walls. They decide on a no strings attached relationship that soon begins to develop into more than just a fling (when doesn’t it amirite?) But soon Val’s past begins to creep into the present, bringing Eve into unfortunately.
I thought this was a pretty cute story! It is full of humor, spicy love, and an intriguing storyline. It was just a quick, easy read. All the side characters were well-developed, along with the MC’s, and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Hello everyone! Today I’m so excited to share with you Throw Like A Girl by Sarah Henning. Keep reading for my thoughts plus my favorite quotes!

Title: Throw Like a Girl

Author: Sarah Henning

Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

Release Date: January 7th 2020

Genre: Contemporary, Young Adult, Romance

Synopsis: Friday Night Lights meets Morgan Matson’s The Unexpected Everything in this contemporary debut where swoonworthy romance meets underdog sports story.

When softball star Liv Rodinsky throws one ill-advised punch during the most important game of the year, she loses her scholarship to her fancy private school, her boyfriend, and her teammates all in one fell swoop. With no other options, Liv is forced to transfer to the nearest public school, Northland, where she’ll have to convince their coach she deserves a spot on the softball team, all while facing both her ex and the teammates of the girl she punched… Every. Single. Day.

Enter Grey, the injured star quarterback with amazing hair and a foolproof plan: if Liv joins the football team as his temporary replacement, he’ll make sure she gets a spot on the softball team in the Spring. But it will take more than the perfect spiral for Liv to find acceptance in Northland’s halls, and behind that charming smile, Grey may not be so perfect after all.

With well-drawn characters and a charming quarterback love interest who’s got brains as well as brawn, Throw Like a Girl will have readers swooning from the very first page.

My thoughts

“SOMEHOW I FIGURED THAT IF I WERE TO HIT THE BOTTOM of my own personal barrel at sixteen, it would’ve been in the dead of a Kansas winter. Snow blowing, skies as gray as my mood, maybe a patch of black ice at the ready to land me on my ass physically as well as metaphorically. Instead, it’s ninety-eight degrees outside in August and approximately 410 degrees in my stomach as it stutters and flips under the withering stare of Coach Kitt.”

Throw Like A Girl Follows the story of Olivia Rodinsky, softball star turned disgrace after a mishap during a game involving her fist and another girls face. When her scholarship gets pulled because of the incident, Olivia is forced to enroll in public school. Her only hope is that she can join the softball team there so that she can secure herself a scholarship for softball. But things don’t go exactly as planned. The softball coach doesn’t believe she has what it takes to be part of a team and wants her to prove she is a good teammate. And so Liv decides the way to show that is to join a team to show Coach Kitt she has what it takes. Deciding on Cross Country as the sport of choice she is all but ready to begin her research into what exactly the sport entails. Until the star quarterback of the football team spots her tossing a ball with her brother. She’s got a killer spiral and he knows that she’d make the perfect backup quarterback for their team. Hesitant at first, Liv isn’t quite convinced football is the sport for her. But the QB is Coach Kitts son and he said he could put in a good word for her. Besides, football is the ultimate team sport. What better way to show she can work in a team?

I found this to be an utterly adorable contemporary! This isn’t just a teen romance novel, it is a journey of self-discovery as well as the ultimate tribute to the world of high school and I was completely absorbed in the story from the first page. I was excited to see how a girl joining an all-male football team would play out and was not disappointed! The chemistry between Liv and her teammates is so wonderful. Besides a few snags( ex on the football team with her) the team accepts her without hesitation after seeing just how hardworking Liv is. And Liv is very hardworking. I felt so motivated reading how determined she was to prove herself. And the romance part! Swoon! I loved Grey. Despite his flaws he was very real and the sparks between Liv and Grey were A+. The world building was complex and I really liked all the characters, even the ones you are supposed to dislike. They were well-developed and lifelike. Henning describes things in a way that make everything so entertaining and I loved this from start to finish. I am giving this a 4 out of 5 stars. Recommended for fans of sports romances, HEA, high school drama, and girl power novels.

Favorite Quotes

I did much better than I ever, ever thought I’d do as a quarterback in an honest-to-God football game. Can I add another “ever” in there? Because EVER.

My pulse stutters. He’s inspecting me, searching for hesitation but actually seeing so much more— and that’s something I’m afraid of.

“I wanted to do that all day.” He winks. “But there’s no kissing in football.” I swallow and compose an answer, lips numb with heat. “Ah, yes, just as iconic a phrase as ‘there’s no crying in baseball.’”

“You’ve got this. You will find a way to win. You will make it happen. Because you’re Liv Rodinsky and you’re absolute magic.”

Title: Fallen Rebel

Author: CG Blaine

Publisher: Gray Page Books LLC

Release Date: December 6th 2019

Synopsis: Cass
Watchers exist by one rule: keep your Nephilim alive. No matter what.
Protecting, following, watching from the shadows, I’ve served my time. Now, all that stands between me and returning home is her.
Hannah Kelley. The last of her line. My final charge. So long as she stays breathing for the next fifty to seventy years, I’ll have completed my punishment. No longer a Fallen.
Except now, she knows who I am. She knows what I am.
And I have no doubt she’s about to make my existence an absolute hell.

I lost everything I loved at once, my world ripped apart in an instant.
I’ve been alone ever since. At least, I thought I was until I met him. A guardian angel. My Watcher. The immortal asshole interfering with every aspect of my life.
Once Cass steps out of the shadows, I have no way of putting him back. Even though I desperately want to. He’s not exactly thrilled with my existence either. I’m keeping him from the eternity he’s been waiting for after all.
But whether we love or hate each other, our fates are intertwined—his forever tied to my life.
And when Cass decides he wants that forever to include me, I fear for anything in heaven or hell that might try to get in his way.

My thoughts

“In the beginning, there was only darkness. Then there was bullshit.”

Cass is a Watcher, an angel in charge of making sure the Nephilim lines on Earth go out naturally. His current and final charge is Hannah. Once she lives out the rest of her life, he is free to return to Heaven finally. And he can’t wait.

“What’s that saying? One step forward, two steps back? With Hannah and me, it’s more like one step sideways, run backward for a quarter of a mile.”

When Hannah learns the truth about Cass, she is less than thrilled to have a guardian angel who has been following her her whole life and will continue to be around for the rest of it. But there’s not much she can do about the arrangement. When demons are suddenly trying to take out the remaining nephilim, the two find themselves starting to get closer and closer.

“The girl I thought was an obstacle between me and everything I could ever want. But that’s not Hannah anymore, and maybe it never was. She’s so much more. She might actually be the everything I stand to lose.”

This was just a great paranormal romance! Cass and Hannah are so swoony and I loved watching their relationship go from can’t stand each other to in love. It went at such a great speed too! No insta-love here thank god. I was completely captivated the whole time! This was a well developed story line with plenty of details and world building to really get you sucked in. Recommended for fans of Alpha-holes turned sweet cinnamon rolls, paranormal romances, and gripping storylines. I give this 5 stars and cant wait to read more from CG!

“Do you believe in God?” I ask, agitation apparent in my voice. “Angels and Heaven and all that?”
“About as much as unicorns and fairies.” Her eyebrows pull together. “Why? Are you going to try and tell me you’re an angel?”
The second she says it out loud, my throat seizes up. We’re at the point of no return. My hand actually shakes while I take a drag off my cigarette, and all I can do is nod.
Hannah catches me off guard with an amused smile. “You want me to believe you’re an angel?” Then she laughs and rolls her eyes. “Okay, John Smith.”
I stare at the sky, placing my hands on the back of my head. She’s starting to irritate me, and I want this done and over with now.
“You want me to prove it?”
She laughs again and nods.
“Fine.” I storm off toward the cliff, my head shaking the entire way.
“Cass…” she says, panic in her tone as I reach the edge. “What are you doing?”
“I’m fucking proving it.”
And then I jump off the cliff, Hannah’s screams following me down.

Publisher: Entangled Publishing LLC (Scorched)

Formats: Paperback, eBook

Pages: 236

Synopsis: I just started my dream job. Too bad it comes with movie mogul Jake Dalton who’s equal parts sexy and arrogant ass. He’s also a man who comes with a thousand warning signs. Good thing I have zero interest in complicating my life.

But while stuck on set in one of the most exotic places in the world, the desert heat isn’t the only thing making me sweat. The more time we spend together, the harder it is to deny the chemistry sizzling between us.

When we finally give in…the sex is off the charts. But Jake has too many secrets, and combined with my past, trust is impossible. This craziness is temporary, right?

My thoughts

“I’m twenty-two, Lucy.” I chuck my age at her like it’s a live hand grenade. “So far I’ve nothing to show for it except unhealthy fixations with parental avoidance and Kindle Unlimited. Stop worrying so much, I’m only his assistant.”

When Charlotte lands a dream job as an assistant for a film producer, she can’t wait. Despite her friends warning about her womanizing boss Matt, and her boss’s boss/brother Jake, Charlie is so excited to finally get out and do something on her own. This is about her and she has no time for a man in her life anyways. That is until she meets Jake.

“A belligerent bibliophile. How charming.” “A procrastinating producer. Aren’t I the lucky one?”

Jake is the producer for the movie and is known on set for his big mood swings and angry tendencies. And Charlie is completely drawn to him. I felt he was a pretty big jerk though(sorry charlie I don’t see it). Even though it’s a big no-no the two are both drawn to each other and start a secret romance.  They both have big secrets from their past that they refuse to share with each other which makes for a bit of a painful reading experience because you know what’s going on with them and why they’re acting that way but they don’t.

“I read somewhere that the right man is the one who seizes the moment,” murmurs Jake, filling the aching silence for me. There’s a pause to let his words breathe before I’m flicking my gaze up to meet his. “I guess I’m still waiting to be someone’s moment, then,” I say quietly.

I enjoyed this overall. It was a quick, mindless romance to read. I felt the ending wrapped up a bit too quickly. We finally get Charlies full backstory and it’s very quick and brief despite being led up to for almost the whole book. I enjoyed Jake and Charlies growth although I feel like they should’ve had more but whatever. Recommended for fans of SPICY romance, dark-brooding and a bit of an a-hole types, and fun, easy reads.

Synopsis: What happens when your next door neighbor is the hottest, most notorious playboy in all of South Beach?

Reece Rowe is on hiatus from respectability. Before she returns to her stable, boring existence of charity events and dating predictable, stuffy suitors who are only interested in getting closer to the wealthy family who adopted her, she’s going to get a taste of what she’s been missing. She screws up her courage and heads to Vincent Ferguson’s office to find out what all the women in South Beach already seem to know about him.

Once CEO Vin Ferguson’s tech company goes public, he’ll have proved he’s no longer the poor, gritty kid from the wrong side of the tracks. But, citing his bad boy reputation, some financial backers waver, and his friends suggest dating a more respectable woman to improve his image. Ridiculous. Because delectable but snooty socialites, like his next door neighbor, are way out of his league.

And then, Reese walks through his office door and makes him an offer. To say his jaw hits the floor is an understatement.

And he can’t believe what she just proposed…

My thoughts

Reforming the CEO was a a sweet story that follows Vin Ferguson and Reece Rowe. Reece  was adopted into a rich household and has lived her life by the rules her whole life, always making sure every hair was in place and never taking any risks. Vin Ferguson is the exact opposite. Growing up poor, Vin made a name for himself and is now a millionaire Tech Mogul, and a bit of a bad boy. When the investors for Vin’s startup want him to tone down his image and settle down, a perfect opportunity arrives for both Reece and Vin. Reece wants a summer of fun and risk taking and Vin needs a “Good Girl” girlfriend to go on dates with. The two strike up a deal and so it begins.

I enjoyed this quite a bit! I felt it started off a bit slowly but once it got going, the pace was perfect. Reece and Vin were so fun to get to know, even though they are both terrible at communicating with each other! There was a few times where I wanted to shake them and tell them to grow up and C O M M U N I C A T E! Besides their terrible communicating, they had great chemistry and were so funny. This was just an all-around fun, easy read!

Recommended for opposites attract tropes, Romance( with a capitol R), and happy endings. Hoping for a sequel to this! Maybe, with Landon??

Synopsis: Multi-Award-Winning and Best-Selling Author, Speaker and Writing Coach.

Willow is just your average sixteen-year-old girl. Okay, maybe not so average. She can heal animals. For her own safety, her veterinarian parents have made her promise not to use her powers. But sometimes her compassion just takes over, and she can’t help … well … helping.

Willow is a Droit, but hides her Droitism because people like her are feared and hated by those without special abilities. Two of Willow’s schoolmates, rumored to be Droits, have simultaneously disappeared.

When Willow’s non-Droit friend, Rain, is targeted, Willow wonders whether she should get involved–even if that means putting herself in the line of fire.

A mysterious new friend, Trae, just might be the key to unlock her courage.

In the end, she has a choice: she can deny who she is or declare her ability to heal, but either way, her life will never be the same again.

My thoughtsThis was a pretty fun read! Willow has secretly hidden the fact that she is a Droit for years. A Droit is a person that has special abilities and everyone who is not a Droit is very hateful towards the Droits. Willows power is helping animals and luckily for her her parents are veterinarians. But they are afraid of what might happen to her if people find out she’s a Droit so they ask her to keep it hidden. And she does. Until one of her friends service dog starts to die right in front of her eyes at school and she just knows she can’t do nothing. She thinks she uses her powers secretly but it only takes one witness for word to get out. And change Willows life as she knows it.

Glow Girl had a great premise and I enjoyed pretty much all of it. Set in a not too distant future, the world building was really neat and dynamic. I have always been a fan of super powers and what not and loved reading about this worlds powers. The pacing was fast but almost too fast at times which made this for a quick read. I was not really a fan of the romance bit of this and felt it could’ve just been tossed out and not taken away from the story. I loved Willows transformation as she goes from being terrified of being a Droit to accepting what she is and what she can do. And I was especially a fan of the fact that her power was helping animals as I am also a huge animal fan.

Recommended for fans of science fiction, X-Men, books that deal with discrimination, and quick, easy reads. I give this 3.75 stars out of 5.

Title: A TOUCH OF DARKNESS (Hades & Persephone #1)

Author: Scarlett St. Clair

Pub. Date: May 23, 2019

Publisher: Scarlett St. Clair

Formats: Paperback, eBook

Pages: 438

Find it: GoodreadsAmazonKindle, TBD

Synopsis: Persephone is the Goddess of Spring by title only. The truth is, since she was a little girl, flowers have shriveled at her touch. After moving to New Athens, she hopes to lead an unassuming life disguised as a mortal journalist.

Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favorite bets are rumored to be impossible.

After a chance encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Dead and the terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever.

The bet does more than expose Persephone’s failure as a Goddess, however. As she struggles to sow the seeds of her freedom, love for the God of the Dead grows—and it’s forbidden.

My thoughts

“My dear you are at war with yourself. It has created darkness within you.” “Darkness?” “Anger, fear, resentment,” Hecate said. “If you do not free yourself first,no one else can.”

Persephone is the Goddess of Spring- except she doesn’t have any powers. Because of this, she has chosen to live life as a mortal going to school and even getting an internship at a newspaper as a journalist. Even though she is living out on her own she is still under her mothers strict thumb. And she is just itching to rebel. When her best friend Lexa comes up with tickets to the lucrative night club owned by Hades, Persephone’s moment to rebel has arrived. Little does she know just how much that night will forever change her life. When Persephone accidentally strikes up a contract with Hades, she is furious. The contract is impossible- she must create something living in The Underworld and she only has six months to do it.

“They say Hades is protective of his realm, and while that is true, it isn’t about power. He cares for his people, protects them, and he takes it personally if anyone is harmed. If you belong to him, he will tear the world apart to save you.”

I loved this so much! I am a total sucker for Greek Mythology and this Hades and Persephone retelling was amaze-balls. The world-building was so cool! Set in a modern world, except the Gods descended on our home one day and totally transformed it. Hades is the God of the Underworld and one of the most powerful of the Gods. He is also the most secretive of the Gods with no one really knowing all that much about it him other than he is the God of the Dead. Which leads to a lot of conclusions being drawn about him. Persephone has heard her whole life growing up about how awful of a man he is and that she must never, ever go near him. Which of course, makes her want to see him all that much more.

Whewie and when they did meet! Can you say chemistryyyyyyy. I loved both of them, especially how much they grew and changed right before our eyes. Persephone goes from being a small, ordinary woman to the awesome, badass Goddess she is. And Hades! Persephone really helps with changing his view points on the mortal world, even going so far as influencing him to start his own charity for the mortals. They are so different yet so alike. One of my favorite scenes was when Persephone was teaching Hades her favorite hobby because he wanted to learn. SwooooOOooon. Besides the main characters we are also treated to delightful side characters. I loved each and every one, good and bad. You will hate the bad ones, and find yourself rooting for everyone else.

“It had always been there, a dark seed, fueling her dreams and her passions, and Hades had roused it, charmed it, fed it.”

Beware! If you start this you will find yourself completely consumed by this book and unable to put down. Recommended for those who like Greek retellings, ROMANCE, beautiful world building, and dark fantasy.  I give this 5 out of 5 stars and am eagerly awaiting A Touch Of Ruin!
