Awakening Shadows was quite an enjoyable start to a new YA Dark Fantasy! This fast-moving novel kept me captivated throughout the storyline and I eagerly finished it within a few days. The author does multiple POV and handled it great! I love different POV’s when they are done well, and I felt in this it really helped add dimension to the plot as well as expanded on the different characters. Evalyn is probably one of my favorite characters, ngl, and I can’t wait to see where it goes with her and Dax. As for the world building, I wish we could have gotten more but since this is the first book its understandable that the author wouldn’t want to bombard us with too much information. As it stands, I loved reading about everything that makes up this fantasy world.
Awakening Shadows has everything I like in a YA Fantasy- lots of action, a gripping plot, characters to root for, and a dash of slow burn romance thrown in. This was a 4 out of 5 star read for me and I am eagerly looking forward to what’s next in the series!
